Spring is here and as much as I like winter those last few weeks of August with the bitingly cold wind was extremely testing. At Woolybutt we have begun the massive shift of yarn from winter to summer. The bulk of the winter yarns will now be located in the downstairs back room and cottons and light weight yarns will be featured in the front room. Patons has renamed the Panda Vintage Blend Cotton as Patons Vintage Cotton Blend and changed the appearance of the ball band but it is still the lovely yarn that many of us love to knit and crochet for summer projects. They have also brought out some lovely new colours and a new booklet with the emphasis still on crochet items, yes, like you I wish they’d bring out a knitting book too featuring this yarn! Some of the new patterns will be featured in Better Homes and Gardens due out on September 19th. I an currently working on a little skirt which uses Katia Sole (2 balls) and Patons Vintage Cotton (2 balls) and it should be in the shop later this week together with the pattern and it is knitted!
A yarn that has not been emphasised by me but which we do stock is Zpaghetti. It is knitting and crochet quality t-shirt material and makes really funky bags and homewares. Apparently macramé is making a comeback and many people tell me that Zpaghetti is ideal because it’s pretty and makes rather funky holders.
The Tea Cosy Exhibition is on at Bundoora Homestead next year so if you are a tea cosy maker get those needles out! The organisers tell me that they’re only accepting two entries per person and that no tea cosies will be distributed to purchasers until after the exhibition finishes. More details are available from the Shop.
We are having a massive cleanout of the Layby section before Christmas so if you have any out standing laybys please come and collect them. it is planned to revamp this area over the Holidays so that next year items will not be so difficult to find.
Current projects: the gorgeous Perfect Day jacket for myself! It will take me until at least April next year to knit it but hopefully when the cold weather hits it will be ready. Zoe has put in a tentative order for the Sole/Vintage Blend skirt so when I finish the one for the shop I’ll be knitting another on for her.
Happy knitting until next month,
Lorraine
